A couple of days ago, I made this fun thumbtack by putting watch parts into a bottlecap, filling with resin, and gluing a tack on the back. This evening, I made three more. I would show you, but I used Diamond Glaze instead of the regular stuff, so they look like big white blobs right now. I hope they still come out as well as this one, though. These would be really easy to sell as a set and they're super easy and quick to make.
I'm also experimenting with stamps on fused glass. I took one of the samples from the other day that wasn't up to par and stamped a bird on it with Staz-On. I heat-set it and now I'm going to carry it around with me (when I think about it), rub it, drop it, and just abuse it a bit and see if the stamp stays on. Updates to come later. Also, for those of you who are actually reading this on a regular basis, I wanted to let you know about a change I'm probably going to make. As it says in my description, the real goal in writing this blog is to narrow down my focus to make starting my business easier and more likely to succeed. So ultimately, the real audience for this is me. But I'd like to make sure other people want to read it, so I'll try to make it interesting. Anyway, the one thing I've been doing that I might change is that I've been trying to change up the things I do from day to day so it doesn't get boring. But I need to keep on going forward with an idea when I have it, so you might see more blocks of days with the same kind of stuff - like a whole week with just soldered pendants, but different types of inserts. Or all glass one week, but different designs and experiments. Or nerdy stuff for several days. I hope you'll still want to read, even if that means you skip and only read occassionally.
And, please, if you see something that makes you think of me and you have an idea for me to try, let me know! I love to play with different media. In fact, tomorrow, I'm going to my friend Laura's house and she's going to teach me how to fuse fine silver. I can't wait to show you the results from that one! Wish me luck!
Good lock.

ReplyDeleteI love the watch parts magnets! I have seen some before, but yours was nicer.
ReplyDeleteBring out your inner dominatrix and abuse the heck out of that piece of glass!
I'm sort of glad that you're changing your blog to follow paths when they come to you. You were making me feel bad because I don't come up with 20 ideas a month! I'm a bit jaded, but still...
Yeah, it didn't take much abuse. It scratches right off. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteOkay - update on that. I did another one at the same time that had brown ink (still Staz-On), but I really didn't like the look of it, so I set it aside. I just picked it up last night and scratched at it, thinking it's going to come right off...and it didn't! So maybe the Staz-On really works, but you have to let it sit undisturbed longer. Probably at least overnight, I guess.
