Layered Resin Pieces

This week I did my first tests with layered resin, as I mentioned yesterday. Overall, very successful run. I tried a dark background color, assuming it would be too dark and it was. And a couple of stamps didn't work very well because the resin was too shallow or the stamp base was too big to judge the distance properly. But other than those, I liked all of the pieces. As I expected, the ones that have stamps inside an untinted resin piece look SO cool. Unfortunately, I have NO idea how to photograph them. Specifically, I have no idea how to photograph them with my current sad setup. I'm already looking into getting a light box.
Since the picture is not very good (I suggest clicking on it to see a bigger version, at least), I'll tell you more about what you're seeing here. The first has a dark purple background, a stamp, then clear front. It looks pretty cool RIGHT next to it, but there's not enough contrast. The second has a tiny bit of pearl-colored alcohol ink swirled into the base, then a stamp and clear front. The back is too subtle, so it looks a little like a mistake, but I love it anyway. For the next one, I just dropped a little alcohol ink in after the top clear layer, then put more resin in - I let the color do its thing. When held up to the light, it looks a little like a sunset. The last one on the top row and the two on the bottom are just clear with a stamp in the middle. The others are tinted on the bottom, stamped in the middle, and clear on the top. The white one with the turquoise flower is my favorite, I think. It also looks cool from the side, because you can see all of the layers clearly (just not on film!). I'm definitely going to do more exploring.
Oh! And my other comic book bangle came out pretty well. I'll let you judge tomorrow, after I'm able to sand it down a bit.

  1. What about metallic stamps for the darker backgrounds? Or white?
I really like the bottom, left corner flower. That one looks ready to have something made out of it!
