Today, during lunch, I went in to check on my last three bottlecap gear creations. Interestingly enough, it looks like the Diamond Glaze leeched out the rust and blue-ish oxidation from the old watch parts. There was a rusty one, that was clearly a failure, but I'm kind of on the fence about the blue ones. I think they are actually pretty cool, even with the blue tint and visible air pockets. Am I kidding myself? Do they look creative, organic, and fun? Or more like sloppy, messy mistakes?
But the overall question for you:
Are these sellable?
There is definately a market for this look! Knowing that the diamond glaze does this now, you can plan for it more. And don't discount the rusty one! I can't tell you how many rusty old things my dad's friend Sandy buys trying to get that 'vintage farm' look in her house! She buys rusty old tools for Pete's sake, and she loves them!
ReplyDeleteThey have an interesting look, and I wouldn't assume from looking at the picture that there was anything about them that was not intentional. The overall effect is like looking through water- like pictures of the personal effects from the Titanic wreckage. It's evokes a very melancholy mood, which works well with the mental associations of watch parts and keys. Unintentional art. Me likey.
ReplyDeleteOoh! I like that association. Maybe I'll call them something like Shipwrecked Gears. Thanks!
