Anyway, I do have a couple of follow-ups to my previous posts, though. First of all, the flower. Yeah, that doesn't work.
It's probably not REALLY clear in the picture, but after a few hours, the color started to leech out of the flower. Now, it's starting to turn tissue-thin in some spots and the petals are becoming translucent. I'm curious to see what it will look like if all of the petals end up being see-through. While interesting, I don't think it will be sellable. So I did some online research and found a couple of people who have done this (crap! not an original idea, but at least there's not a lot of competition) and it looks like the secret is drying the flowers first. More experiments to come soon!
And, my uncle was in town this weekend for his brother's birthday and he has agreed to let me use his photographs in my work in any way I would like! So I will definitely be moving forward with those ideas soon. For tonight, I think I'll get back to practicing my glass cutting skills and fire up the kiln again.
Fire kiln! Fire kiln!
