My dad gave all his old comics to my brother Sean to sell on eBay. I asked Sean to give me the ones that aren't in good enough condition to sell. This is the first thing I've made with them. I've embedded a strip of a page in resin. I just poured it last night, so it's still curing, but looks like it's going to work! Not sure how hard it's going to be to clean up the edges of this.

Holy moly that's sweet. I like it! Not sure how feasible this would be, but you could also make a ring this way. Here's my thought process:
ReplyDelete1) Comics
2) Most likely... guy
3) Bangle?
But a thick ring? Score. Make a bit of it "flat" so it looks more like a ring, and then in that part center some interesting part of the comic.
On the other hand, the comic you chose above totally works for girls too, I dunno, just pre-coffee yackin here.
love it,can't hardly wait to see more
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I like it! I've never seen any molds for rings, but I can probably make some. Or mount the comic to a simple metal ring and encase it in resin. Look for experiments soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I think this bangle is super cool! Perhaps think about making a larger one, with slightly smaller ones to make them stackable, or sell them as a set? Girls who are into comics would totally dig that.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with this project is that the mold is so form-fitting that I practically had to destroy it to get the bracelet out. Of course, the mold is only $4, so at one per, that would still only bring the cost of materials to about $5. And I think the outcome is worth it! But to make lots and stack them, I'd probably have to do a decoupage thing instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for ring forms now - I think that would be a great alternative. I could make them faster and easier, and it would appeal to men. I have a friend with a gaming store who has already said I can have counter space, and I've been wracking my brain to figure out what to do for my nerdy boys. 'Cause let's be honest - there aren't very many of them bringing their gamer girfriends in. We're rare.
I am not into comics but I would buy this comic bangle because the colors/pattern are very cool. I love that it's almost see through. I love that you made it on the thin side because I would wear a couple of them together or wear one with a couple other stackers. My girls are 19 & 22 and I'm certain that they would love this too; they aren't comic gals either but appreciate art and this is awesome!! Not sure about a ring..?..but LOVE the bangle!!
